LGBTQ+ Student Services
Cristian Alvarez

LGBTQ+ Student Services has truly been my home away from home at Rutgers-Newark. From being able to attend events such as the Drag Show and Q-Chats to hanging out in the Pride Lounge in between classes, I have always felt safe and seen.

Bio: My name is Cristian Alvarez a 4th year student at Rutgers University-Newark in the School of Arts and Sciences. I am pursuing a major in sociology and a minor in criminal justice. During my time here at Rutgers-Newark, I have been a LGBTQ+ Raider Intern for LGBTQ+ Student Services, which is housed under the Intercultural Resource Center. As an LGBTQ+ Raider intern I have assisted in making educational “How Do I ....?” videos that cover topics such as “Exploring Gender Identity” and “Staying Politically Active.” In addition, I provided support and resources in a one on one capacity to my LGBTQ+ peers.

About the Office:  LGBTQ+ Student Services has truly been my home away from home at Rutgers-Newark. From being able to attend events such as the Drag Show and Q-Chats to hanging out in the Pride Lounge in between classes, I have always felt safe and seen. Being involved as a LGBTQ+ Raider intern has also afforded me hands on experience when working with a greater student population as well as provided me with the tools I need to succeed. The community that thrives due to LGBTQ+ Student Services is amazing, and I would urge students to take advantage of it as much as possible.
