Undocumented Students

To keep our RU-N community and Campus Partners up to date on current and future policies on a local, state, to federal level, Undocu-Ally Trainings are offered each academic semester. During these trainings, to which departments may request the USS for appointed sessions, individuals become aware of the realities faced by the undocumented community and how they can become an ally to our students within their roles.

Be part of our Undocu-Ally Student Training Sessions to better understand how to be an ally to your peers! By attending our secure and virtual sessions, you will gain insight into increasing your awareness, enhancing your advocacy skills, and being connected with the large Rutgers University-Newark community.

Sessions are offered each semester. You'll learn about:

• State and federal legislation that affects Undocu+ students.
• Campus and community resources that support Undocu+ students.

Undocu-Ambassadors are current undergrad students who provide support and guidance to those who are connected to the undocumented community. In their role, they ensure the visibility of the USS office on campus by informing the RU-N campus, with a focus on the student population of the resources and peer-to-peer support offered to succeed academically and personally while at Rutgers University-Newark.

Celebrated annually in the month of May, the Monarch Graduation ceremony recognizes the hard work and resiliency of our graduating seniors amongst our closest family, friends, and RU-N community. During the ceremony, a special individual is chosen by the USS Monarch Graduation planning committee to receive the Nancy Cantor Trailblazer Award for their progressive and impactful contributions to the undocumented community.

Hosted once a month, Undocu-Talks provides an opportunity for students to join in relevant social and cultural discussions about the issues important to, but not limited to, undocumented and mix-status students. Undocu-Talks are led by our Undocu-Ambassadors with the objective to raise awareness, support, and create a sense of connectiveness.

Held during the Fall and Spring semesters, the Undocu-Welcome reception allows undocumented students to have the opportunity to meet their peers, along with RU-N staff, faculty, and community partners as their allies’ providing resources of support, campus involvement, and leadership development.
