The Office of Disability Services (ODS) is responsible for working with you to address barriers to access. We meet with you to discuss your needs, review documentation, and determine appropriate accommodations and supports. Whether you are thinking about attending Rutgers University- Newark or you are already a student, we are a resource for you and we look forward to you connecting with us. Below you will find information to help guide you through this process.

We are here to answer any questions you might have about the office or your time as a student. YOU drive this process so we need you to connect with us so we can work together.
Start the process by filling out our Initial Information Form and an ODS staff member will follow up in 3-5 business days to schedule an appointment.
We encourage you to connect with us as early as possible as the process can take time. More information about the process can be found on the our main page in the ‘about us’ section.
If you are not sure if you should connect with us, ask yourself the following questions:
Do you have a physical, medical, or mental condition and are encountering a barrier to your experience as a student?
Have you used accommodations in the past, such as extended time on tests, notes from your teachers, small group classes, extensions on deadlines, or the opportunity to take your tests with fewer classmates?
Have you had an Individualized Education Plan (IEP), 504 Plan, or previously received special education services in elementary, middle, or high school?
Do you have a condition that might affect your ability to safely live in housing and/or participate in campus activities?
Do you think you might have a disability and have questions about how you might get a diagnosis?
If you answered YES to any of the following questions, connect with us through the Initial Information Form.
If NO, please fill out our Inquiry form so we can follow up with you.
The Office of Disability Services works with the CARE Team to support students with temporary conditions. If you are looking for support for a temporary condition, please visit temporaryconditions.rutgers.edu and fill out the form so we can provide you with support.
The Office of Disability Services can be an important part of deciding where you want to go to school. The transition from high school to college can be confusing.
We are happy to have a conversation about what you can expect from our office as a student and try to help you prepare for the transition.
Please connect with us through the Initial Information Form. Let us know in advance if you are planning a campus tour or visit so we can arrange an appointment while you are on campus.
We are happy to be a resource to parents. We recognize this process and the transition can be difficult.Conversations specific to a student are most productive when the student is a participant. We will need permission from the student in order to share information.
If your student is currently at Rutgers, please encourage them to fill out the Initial Information Form.
If this is a prospective student, please fill out our Inquiry form so we can arrange a conversation.
For general questions about the process, please call us at 973-353-5375 or email us at ods@newark.rutgers.edu.
