As an undocumented person, I have and continues to advocate

Bio: My name is Erika Martinez, and I am a third-year student majoring in Sociology and minoring in Legal Studies. I am a youth organizer at Make the Road New Jersey, a community organization that builds the power of immigrant and working class communities in New Jersey to achieve dignity and justice through community organizing, legal and support services, transformative education and policy innovation. As an undocumented person, I have and continues to advocate for the passage of the clean DREAM Act, the abolishment of ICE, and lobbied for the landmark victory expanding access to state financial aid programs to New Jersey undocumented youth. I am now building the movement to expand access to occupational licenses for all New Jersey residents, regardless of their immigration status.  In addition to my work I am the President of RU Dreamers, the on-campus advocacy organization for undocumented students.

About the Office: Undocumented Student Services, strives to empower undocumented students, mix-status families, and allies to navigate higher education.  Undocumented Student Services supports students through the complexity of financial aid, admissions, career development, and wellness, while being an undocumented immigrant. If you are an undocumented student or a child of an undocumented immigrant, you are welcome at Rutgers University–Newark. We will help you find all the resources you need to focus on your education.
